Counselling

Life after secondary school can be intimidating, but our academic and career counselling team is committed to working with students who are seeking clarity as they make decisions about the next steps that they will take after high school.  For most of our students,  life after high school includes tertiary education, whether it is simply in pursuit of further knowledge or in preparation for their chosen career.

Role of Post-Secondary Counselling

  • Provide clear details about, and interpretation of post-secondary program admission requirements ( including dates and deadlines)
  • Engage students in discovering their strengths and areas in need of improvement, and planning for realistic program application and career goals
  • Provide resources and additional guidance students might need when completing supplementary application forms, interviews and admission tests (TOEFL, SAT, etc)
  • Collaborate with post-secondary institutions in organizing admission and recruitment sessions.
  • Many people believe that  choosing a major is equivalent to choosing a career,  and that the post secondary program(s) in which they choose to enrol now will determine the course of their future.

Although program selection does require careful consideration, it is important to remember the following:

  • 20-50% of all students entering university are undecided about their majors,
  • 50-70% of students change their majors at least once during their studies, and
  • Most individuals will change their jobs or careers six to seven times over a lifetime.
